چکیده

The negotiation process is often referred to in the literature on federated databases, but is seldom covered in depth. This process is essential to determine data of the component schema to be integrated for building a federated schema and the access permissions to be granted. This paper presents our negotiation process approach which is incorporated in the integration schemas mechanism, so we can lie in getting the beneet of work realised in analysis and resolution phases of integration schemas needed for negotiation process.

A Hierarchical Export/Import Scheme for Data Sharing in a Federated Distributed Database System

When a data object is shared in a federated distributed database system (FDDBS), the exporter is responsible to refresh data of all importers. This causes the bottleneck phenomenon at the exporter’s site due to all importers competing for its refresh service. In this paper, we propose an efficient export/import scheme for data sharing in a FDDBS that can solve this problem. We devise the proced...

Integrating Multilevel Security Policies in Multilevel Federated Database Systems

Federated database systems solve the problem of sharing information among independent entities. When building and operating such a federated database system, it is necessary to protect data. Because of heterogeneities among security systems of component databases an integration of them is essential, taking into account new security features of the federation itself. This paper describes a multi...

Tradeoff Negotiation: The Importance of Getting in the Game; Comment on “Swiss-CHAT: Citizens Discuss Priorities for Swiss Health Insurance Coverage”

Swiss-CHAT’s playful approach to public rationing can be considered in terms of deliberative process design as well as in terms of health policy. The process’ forced negotiation of trade-offs exposed unexamined driving questions, and challenged prevalent presumptions about health care demand and about conditions of public reasoning that enable transparent rationing. While the experiment provide...

Building a Federated Database: the Femus Experience

The increased avalaibility of various databases in large corporations has created the need to federate the databases into loosely coupled collections of autonomous systems to allow controlled sharing of information and at the same time preserve the autonomy of each participant. Traditional distributed database (DDB) research has provided the earliest solutions to information sharing in distribu...

Building Secure Data Warehouse Schemas from Federated Information Systems

Introduction There are many heterogeneities among preexisting informations sources, such as DataBases (DBs), particularly semantic heterogeneities (see our chapter “Semantic Heterogeneity” in [1]). Any secure Federated Information Systems (FIS) must solve them, and deal with a): how schema levels are related to security, and b): operations on schemas to convert from level to level. We present t...
